The Hourglass of Life

I have a 4-year-old sister, Elliana. One of her favorite toys these days is a small 1-minute hourglass. She loves to turn it over and watch the sand flow from one chamber to the other.

Life is like an hourglass — time is continually flowing. But here’s the key difference: we can tip a normal hourglass on its side to pause the flow of sand. But we can’t stop time from flowing. We are given 24 precious hours each day to use however we wish. We can invest them in worthwhile pursuits or squander them on fluff.

Time is a valuable commodity, the “great equalizer”. Everyone, regardless of wealth, social status, ethnicity, or any other factor, gets just 24 hours per day. What separates the extraordinarily successful from everyone else is how they use those 24 hours. How are you using your time? As my dad says, “Are you doing what is fun and easy or what is hard and necessary?”

I often wish there were more hours in the day. Currently, my obligations include running multiple businesses (and launching another), coaching Apologetics and debate at my club, working on my own speeches and debate cases, studying for CLEP examinations, and this little thing called school. I’m always looking for ways to streamline my work and get more results for less effort.

That’s one of the reasons I created Thoroughly Equipped: The Comprehensive Guide to Apologetics. It’s hard to cover over 100 topics, and the research takes an enormous amount of time. Thoroughly Equipped allows you to cover the vast majority of the topics by writing only 25 “concept cards”. You can then take these cards, combine them with some details on whatever topic you draw, and be ready to speak clearly, coherently, and convincingly on any topic.

If you’re competing in Apologetics and the hourglass of your day is running out, perhaps it’s time for you to purchase a system that streamlines the card-writing process and allows you to master Apologetics by writing only 25 cards.
